AMERICA/BOLIVIA - The Diocese of Cochabamba in solidarity with the children of TIPNIS

Cochabamba - "Next Sunday will be the Fifth Sunday of Lent, and we want to make a collection in all the churches, in all communities of Cochabamba, with a key objective, namely, our solidarity, our love for the poorest... We want to show our contribution and our love, our sympathy for TIPNIS": says, in the note sent to Fides, His Exc. Mgr. Oscar Aparicio, Archbishop of Cochabamba, announcing this day of solidarity dedicated to brothers and sisters in need, especially children.

Mgr. Aparicio also describes the harsh reality that the people of TIPNIS lives, marked by the lack of health care and basic necessities. The Indigenous Territory and Isiboro Secure National Park, better known as TIPNIS, is located between the departments of Beni and Cochabamba . More than 60 communities live in TIPNIS, poverty is widespread and many children die due to lack of medical care, malnutrition and other preventable diseases.
