Stephen Pratt thinks companies will soon have Chief AI Officers:

At a recent The Information summit event, Stephen Pratt of Noodle.ai thinks we’ll soon see CAIO as a work title:

A COMPUTER’S BUSINESS BRAIN

Large companies generate huge amounts of data and so were among the first to take advantage of big data analytics. Now, artificial intelligence—particularly technologies like machine learning and deep neural networks—promise to help large companies gain even more insight from their data, said Stephen Pratt, CEO of AI startup Noodle.ai and former global leader of services for IBM Watson, in a breakout session discussion on AI.

But while companies getting an early start with AI can get a competitive edge, the technology has far-reaching impact on business processes that companies must consider, Mr. Pratt said. Noodle.ai’s staff includes AI experts, data scientists and business process consultants. But the startup, which launched in March with an unspecified amount of funding from private equity firm TPG Growth, isn’t sharing details about its core product.

Choosing what type of AI to buy and how to use it are among the challenges large companies will face in the future, Mr. Pratt said. Given the scope of these decisions, companies in the future will have to consider appointing a “chief AI officer” to oversee these projects, Mr. Pratt said.
