On Sunday, day three in the UEFA Euro 2016, Turkey lost to Croatia 0–1; Poland defeated Northern Ireland 1–0; and World Champions Germany defeated Ukraine 2–0.
Group D — Turkey vs Croatia[edit]
In the first match of the day, captain Arda Turan led Turkey against Croatia, facing his FC Barcelona teammate Ivan Rakitić. Cenk Tosun of Turkey was the first one to be shown a yellow card in the 31st minute. Almost ten minutes later, Luka Modrić scored from a volley, putting Croatia in front.
In the second half, Turkish Hakan Balta was booked in the 48th minute. In the 69th minute, Cenk Tosun was replaced by Emre Mor, making Mor the youngest Turk to feature in a UEFA Euro tournament. Ivan Strinić was booked in the 80th minute and was the only Croatian player to be shown a yellow card in the match. Just before the final whistle, Volkan Şen was shown a yellow card and Croatia collected three points in Parc des Prince stadium.
Group C — Poland vs Northern Ireland[edit]
Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski led the Poles to a 1–0 victory over Northern Ireland as Arek Milik scored the only goal of the match in the 51st minute. Three players were booked in the entire match. Bartosz Kapustka and Łukasz Piszczek of Poland were booked in the 65th and 89th minute respectively. Criag Cathcart of the Northern Ireland received a yellow card in the 69th minute. Poland won the match with stronger ball possession and 88% passing accuracy.
This was Poland's first victory in a Euro tournament. After the match, Milik said, "I finally did my job[...] I'm happy that I scored but it's the victory that counts the most."
Group C — Germany vs Ukraine[edit]
Shkodran Mustafi opened the scoring in the 19th minute. Only one player was booked in the entire match – Yevhen Konoplyanka of Ukraine in the 68th minute. The Germans had greater ball possession. Manager Joachim Löw made two substitutions to the German team. In the 78th minute, Julian Draxler was replaced by André Schürrle; and Mario Götze was substituted, bringing on Bastian Schweinsteiger in the 90th minute. Within a couple of minutes, Schweinsteiger scored the second goal as Germany won against the Yellow-Blue Ukrainians.
