The report present a detailed methodology, datasets used and the reasoning behind the spatial statistical analysis of the marine protected area networks in Europe´s seas. It presents the caveats and the solutions chosen when encountering challenges in performing such an analysis. The report further directly supports EU Commission progress of protected areas (MSFD art. 21) to the Parliament and Council by providing spatial information on the distribution of marine protected areas in Europe´s seas.
