There are many documents that provide guidance about restoration or explain why it is necessary. In European union (EU) countries, river basin management plans define the necessary framework and desired measures to improve the ecological status and quality of rivers.Our publication will not repeat this information, but instead focus on the financial aspect of restoration by outlining the main financial sources for wetland restoration in the EU, and especially in Danube basin countries. We collected the most important criteria and requirements of the main funding lines in order to help experts and decision makers in the responsible authorities, research institutions, and NGOs that deal with floodplain and wetland restoration.
