SAIC provides technology solutions to federal, state and local governments, and is dedicated to delivering information technology and technical services at a rapid rate to customers.

As customer demand and aggressive development timelines grew, SAIC needed a solution that could help them quickly deploy IT infrastructure services and keep up with market demand. “We needed a rapid development platform for creating differentiated solutions and offerings for our customers,” said Coby Holloway, SAIC Vice President and Service Line Director of Cloud Computing Technologies and Business Transformation Services.

How did the company respond? They turned to VMware’s Hybrid Cloud Services, using VMware vCloud® Air™ as their IT Infrastructure as a service platform and deploying VMware’s vCloud® Government Service for federal customers that have Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) requirements.

With vCloud Air and vCloud Government Service, SAIC could easily migrate workloads to and from their private and public cloud with minimal engineering and administrative interaction. Because SAIC’s environment was already built on vSphere, SAIC could reap the benefits of a true hybrid cloud solution that was compatible with both their internal infrastructure and their customers’ infrastructure.

As a result of extending their IT infrastructure with vCloud services from VMware, SAIC found the increased speed, agility and flexibility it needed to remain competitive. Other benefits included an increased ability to:

  • Deliver new capabilities to the Research & Development team in minutes rather than weeks or months;
  • Seamlessly migrate data to and from the cloud to streamline day-to-day processes;
  • Automate network administration tasks, thus saving time and reducing costly errors;
  • Deliver security and compliance for hybrid cloud architectures

Today, SAIC’s comprehensive, managed cloud services help federal, state, local, and commercial customers achieve business transformation with the economy, flexibility and speed of the cloud.

SAIC also hopes to expand the use of automation software development activities and find new ways to help customers innovate more rapidly.

"Particularly, we think our customers are going to be interested in the power of software defined networking," said Holloway. "We are starting to see our customers explore that space, so we are very interested in expanding our own offerings to include it.

We're also looking forward to software-defined storage and virtualized storage configuration capabilities. Integrate all of that into a seamless IT service delivery framework and we think that's the next generation of IT. That is where the software-defined data center is really going to shine in the future."

Whether it’s IT solutions, training and simulation, or logistics and supply chain support, SAIC services can drive performance anywhere, thanks to vCloud Air – even on missions to space or to the bottom of the ocean.
