Vox Media buys ReCode

ReCode apparently found it hard to go alone, and has been acquired by Jim Bankoff’s Vox Media, recently valued at $400 million in a $46.5 million round.

More than money, though ReCode needs readers. ReCode was founded by Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg, formerly of AllThingsD at the Wall Street Journal. They left that publication and formed ReCod, basically doing the same things – tech journalism and events – but without the traffic offered by a media giant, they found themselves a small fish in a very big pond.

I wish them well. I read their stuff everyday, and Jim Bankoff is a very, very smart guy. He’ll figure out ways to leverage their great journalism.
