The BBC has fired Jeremy Clarkson, the star of Top Gear, after an inquiry found that he assaulted one of the show's producers.

In a BBC statement the director-general Tony Hall said, "It is with great regret that I have told Jeremy Clarkson today that the BBC will not be renewing his contract. It is not a decision I have taken lightly. I have done so only after a very careful consideration of the facts and after personally meeting both Jeremy and Oisin Tymon."
He added he said "A member of staff – who is a completely innocent party – took himself to Accident and Emergency after a physical altercation accompanied by sustained and prolonged verbal abuse of an extreme nature. For me a line has been crossed. There cannot be one rule for one and one rule for another dictated by either rank, or public relations and commercial considerations."
The Daily Telegraph revealed on Tuesday evening that Lord Hall, the BBC's director-general, had decided to dispense with Clarkson's services.
The Guardian reported on Wednesday morning that the BBC director-general would not renew Clarkson's contract (which was up for renewal), with sources saying that there was "little alternative" following what became known as the "fracas".
Clarkson was suspended after getting into a row with Oisin Tymon, one of the show's producers.
Returning late from filming to a North Yorkshire hotel being used by the production crew, Clarkson was reportedly aggrieved that the kitchens had closed, meaning that he was unable to enjoy a steak dinner.
According to the Telegraph , the internal report found that Clarkson spent 20 minutes shouting at Tymon before launching a physical attack.
